What density means
Keyword density is the number of times a keyword appears divided by the total word count, expressed as a percentage. A 1,000-word page that mentions standing desk ten times has a 1% density for that phrase.
What to do with the number
Density is not a ranking factor and there is no magic percentage. The number is useful as an over-optimization alarm: if a phrase reads repeated and mechanical, that is usually visible as a density well above the surrounding copy. What matters more is placement: the keyword in the title, the H1, the first paragraph and one or two headings, written naturally.
